Kitfox Games Unveils New Co-Op Procedural Game

What would happen if the Moon disappeared?  That is exactly what the game Moon Hunters sets out to answer.  Developed by Kitfox Games, this game is currently in the kickstarter phase.

The story of the game starts when the Moon fails to rise into the sky one evening.  To solve this mystery, the several heroes set out to solve the mystery.  The decisions they make along the way will shape the way succeeding generations will remember them.

In terms of gameplay, Moon Hunters is a procedurally generated and story-driven RPG.  Regarding customization, you’re not actually customizing your characters physical attributes as you are customizing your characters’ story.  In other words, you determine your characters’ stories through the decisions you make throughout the game.  Moon Hunters accommodates 1 to 4 players.  So while playing single player may be fun on it’s own, playing cooperatively provides a more novel experience. It’s fairly interesting how story and gameplay are interwoven in this game as the decisions you make influence how succeeding generations of your tribe will remember you as well as whether your character gets a constellation in the night sky and how long it stays there.

Their kickstarter campaign just started August 26th of this year and passed their initial goal of $45,000.  By the end of Friday, the campaign had reached over $69,000 dollars, surpassing their $65,000 mark granting the game a new playable character at launch. As of the writing of this article, the campaign for Moon Hunters has reached over $77,000, passing their benchmark of $75,000 and allowing for a PSN release.  This will make Moon Hunters available on the PS3 and PS4.  So the kickstarter campaign is enjoying tremendous success.

However, the developers over at Kitfox Games have so much more planned for the game.  For example, should they raise $100,000, they’ll be able to make Moon Hunters an online multiplayer for PC and Mac.  Should they reach the $134,000 mark, they’ll be able to make a PS Vita version.  And, if their kickstarter page is anything to go by, they have so much more planned.

This game shows so much promise and, with the support of the Square Enix Collective and more crowdfunding, will finds itself in a fully realized release in July of 2015.  For more information on Moon Hunters, check out their kickstarter page.
