New Pikachu Game Pretty Much Confirmed
Pikachu seems set to star in another videogame, according to Japanese television show NHK Professional: Shigoto no Ryuugi. The president of the Pokemon Company, Tsunekazu Ishihara, is slated to appear on October 28th, and NHK’s description of the preceding mentions that they will likely be talking about an in-development, unannounced Pokemon game. Which will be starring Pikachu.
“This summer, Ishihara started development on a never before seen game It’s a new game featuring the very popular character Pikachu in a bold way. There is concern, however, that if it’s bad the long loved character would lose popularity in the blink of an eye.”
To many, this comes as no surprise, because Pikachu is the Pokemon. If you ask a random, non-gamer passerby of a Pokemon, they will likely mention Pikachu. Pikachu is as much as a cultural phenomenon in and of itself as the entire Pokemon franchise is, in many ways, and so the idea that there’ll be a new game starring the little yellow critter – especially with all the hype surrounding Pokemon X and Y, is a no-brainer.
On the other hand… I love Pikachu. Pikachu’s my favourite. Pikachu is the greatest. I dig up most every game featuring Pikachu in a star role – my favourite version of Pokemon is still Yellow, the PokePark series entertains me more than it in any way should, and even the decidedly broken Hey You, Pikachu is like a dream game come true for me. So, when I hear that there’s another Pikachu game coming out, and it’s described as “bold,” here’s what I have to say: it’s about damn time.
