PS3 Firmware 4.50 Lands Today: Auto Software Updates for All
It that time again, what time you say? The time when your ready to boot up that online session of GTA Online, only to be greeted with that PS3 firmware update, as firmware 4.50 lands today.
The big news, the rather helpful PS+ feature automatic software/firmware updates are landing for everybody today, even for people without a PS+ subscription. So head over to [Settings] > [System Settings] > [Automatic Update] and get set up (once the update installs of course).
For those who don’t know how the system works, once you turn on automatic updates, you will pick a time for when the system will turn on and download patches, save games to the cloud (if you have PS+) and download/install games. It’s pretty handy for times when you have a large download file that needs to be installed or when you don’t want to waste time installing patches.
Auto Update has also been given a nice new feature. If you’re like me, who gets his PS+ games via the web store at work or school you normally had to turn your PS3 on and head to the download list to retrieve it. Today will bring an end to that, as the games will now download onto your system during the auto update check. Now games will be ready to play before you get home from work or when you wake up in the morning.
Other new features also included is the ability to hide games from your trophies list, or the whole list from friends all together, and the ability to transfer stuff between the Vita and PS3 via WiFi. The update goes live at some point today so be ready for that update notification to appear, but please Sony, please don’t turn systems into great paperweights this time!
