Reports Claim Sega Buys ATLUS And Parent Company Index Corporation

I’m sure many ATLUS fans have been nervously waiting for some news regarding the fate of the company that brings us the popular Shin Megami Tensei series and its spin-offs (Persona, Devil Summoner, and Digital Devil Saga). Back in July, we learned that Index Corporation, the parent company of ATLUS, had indeed filed civil rehabilitation proceedings and would be selling off its assets within the following months. Rumors ran wild with some thinking that Nintendo would be the one to purchase ATLUS or holding out hope that perhaps ATLUS would buy themselves.

We fast forward to today where reports from Nikkei have come in. Like it or not, it appears that Sega Sammy Holdings will be paying 14 billion yen (roughly $141 million in USD) for transfer of management from Index to Sega in November. This does come as a surprise to many and comments seen online have ranged from anger to that of disbelief.

I, personally, am hesitant to be either happy at the news or saddened by the news. As a fan of ATLUS, I want to see it thrive. No matter who owns the ATLUS brand. If Sega can do this, I’m happy. Be sure to comment below with your thoughts on Sega taking over ATLUS.
