Vita TV Announced: You Can Now Play Vita Games on Your TV
In a rather shocking announcement at the end of today’s Sony press conference in Tokyo, Sony announced a new system called the Vita TV.
Let’s get the main point out of the way, it can play PlayStation Vita games as well as PSP and PS1 games from the store, with your PS3 controller, and on your HD TV. It gets better as you can also use any of the TV services that Sony has to offer as well as stream the PS4 to it. There’s more, you DO NOT require a Vita to use it if the press release is explaining it right, and we saw a Vita card slotted into the system during it demo video. All this awesome stuff in this small box retails for under 10,000 yen in Japan, that is under $100 in US money. I think everybody had their minds blown this morning at 8AM UK Time, because this was a crazy announcement, and a great one to see.
Vita TV lands in Japan on November 14th. No news from Sony on a release date for the West yet. A bundle with the system, a 8GB Memory Card and a Dualshock 3 controller will also land in Japan for under 15,000 yen ($135).
UPDATE: Sony have confirmed that the system will also have Gaikai streaming support, meaning this cheap $99 system can play PS3 games in the future too. So this is now a cheap PS3, PSP, Vita and PS3 system. I’m sold.
