Who’s playing the newest MMORPG to hit town Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn? I know I have been. I also know that  it hasn’t been a fully smooth ride however.

The reboot of the rather disappointing game from 2010 has become rather popular since open beta when it smashed the record for most connected players at one time for a Japanese MMORPG with 157,000 at the peek of open beta. However, new data revealed by Naoki Yoshida today have revealed that the record has been smashed again, with 218,000 players being connected to the game at one point. With these numbers come problems, with servers crashing, duty finder being broken at times, or refusing to match players and people being locked out with the now infamous 3102 error (meaning your character is logged in when your not.) Early Access was crippled by maintenance where the game was out for multiple hours at a time. The servers are getting better, but only thanks to log in limits and blocking new characters from being created.

How is Square Enix working to fix this? Well, you will be pleased to hear that the team are in the process of adding new servers and vastly improving server capabilities. This should be done by early next week. You may be asking “But what about people that lost playtime due to this?” It’s a good question to ask, as even myself got locked out for over a day during early access. Fear not, as the company has also promised that everybody will get ‘several’ free days added to their accounts after the problems are fixed. Servers being fixed, and free days, who can moan about that?

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn arrived on PS3 and PC on Tuesday, with a PS4 version planned for next year. Buy it now for $30 or £15.99, you even get 30 days worth of subscription with it as well which is $11.99 or £7.69 a month normally. Now, please excuse me while I return to getting ready to get my Summoner job.
