3DS Leads Hardware Sales for Third Straight Month
If you have been paying attention to the games industry in any capacity, then you know that the Nintendo 3DS is on fire all across the world. Nintendo just announced that in the United States, the 3DS had the highest sales out of all hardware for the month of July. If you’re keeping count, that’s the third consecutive month that the 3DS has beat out the Xbox 360 in its home country as well as everything else.
On the software side of things, the 3DS had another strong month of sales. Animal Crossing sold another whopping 150,000 copies, bringing its total lifetime sales to more than 660,000. Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon has now sold over 820,000 copies, while New Super Mario Bros. U has now reached over 830,000 copies sold on the Wii U. Despite launching last November, that is pretty good numbers for a game on a system that only sold 160,000 units in a three month period.
Starting with the launch of Pikmin 3 a little over a week ago, the Wii U already has a good lineup of games coming through the rest of the year and into 2014, so hopefully the Wii U’s sales will finally improve despite the launch of the next-gen consoles.
