Meet Project Phoenix, An Indie JRPG Developed by AAA Talent


After being teased for a  number of days now, Project Phoenix’s Kickstarter page went live this morning, and promises to be a JRPG developed by AAA talents from both the eastern and western sides of the world.

Project Phoenix is a Square-based real time strategy game with JRPG game design influences. The kickstarter promises the game will to be set in a fantasy world with breathtaking environments and Japanese character design. Players will be following an angel with amnesia who is traveling through the world of Azuregard with a band of heroes looking for answers. The game will be a single-player game and will launch around the middle of 2015.

If you’re looking for a game developed by Triple A talent, then look no further, as some of the top talents from around the world are already working on the project. These include Hiroaki Yura, who directed the MMORPG Diablo III, and worked on some big anime projects as well, including the film The Disapperance of Haruhi Suzumiya. Next, game designer Vaughan Smith from Australia was lead designer for L.A. Noire. Steffen Unger, Lead 3D Modeller, worked on Halo 4 and Crysis 3. Art will be directed by Kiyoshi Arai, who was art director for Final Fantasy III, XII and XIV 1.0. Other talents include Nobuo Uematsu, who composed for the first 10 Final Fantasy games, Donna Burke, who cast Snake’s new voice actor for Metal Gear Solid 5, and John Kurlander, who worked onsound for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

The game will launch on PC, Mac, and Linux, with a different version for iOS and Android. The developers are working on getting the game on Vita as well as next-gen systems as well.
