Xbox 360 Gold Subscribers Receive Next Free Game Today

Since Microsoft’s E3 presentation, two free games will be available to Xbox 360 Gold Subscribers on the 1st and 16th of each month for the entire year. With Fable III now behind us, the next free offering is none other than Hidden Path Entertainment’s Defense Grid: The Awakening. A tower defense game that was released a few years back, it has been recognized for its quality and strategic gameplay. The game is usually priced at 800 Microsoft Points in the Arcade, but will be free for Gold members from July 1st through July 15th. Assassin’s Creed 2 and Halo 3 are also within the line-up of freebies, but we have yet to hear about confirmations regarding their individual release date. Who knows what else Microsoft will pull out of the hat when July 16th rolls about.

The generous giveaways to loyal members seems to be a scheme that has been long overdue. Sony’s PlayStation Plus service have been offering a greater amount of free and notable titles such as Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (single-player), Little Big Planet Karting and XCOM: Enemy Unknown that were available for June – with other games available for the PS Vita as well. In simpler terms, there really isn’t a fair comparison between the offerings of both companies but it is safe to say that Microsoft is headed in the right direction before their Xbox One launch. It doesn’t matter if you’re an Xbox or Sony fan, because the more free (and preferably decent) games, the happier the gamers will be.
