Index Corporation, Parent Company of ATLUS, Files for Civil Rehabilitation Proceedings

Some rather sad news is coming out of Japan this morning, as Index Corporation, the parent company of developer Atlus, Index has filed for civil rehabilitation proceedings.

Index brought out Atlus 7 years ago when Index expanded to the gaming business, the developers are famous for making some fantastic JRPG’s including my second favorite JRPG of all time, Persona 3. Rumors started to spread as early as last night that Index was going to file for bankruptcy, but this changed when CNET Japan reported that the company was instead going to file for civil rehabilitation proceedings. The company confirmed this a few hours later via a press release, sadly it hard to read the statement as it is in Japanese.

From what I am reading on twitter, the main point of the statement is that Index are going to sell off Atlus as quickly as possible so this move does not effect development of games in anyway. Still with this announcement, it might be a possibility that Per5ona (Persona 5 in the way I call it) might be put on hold for the moment. Atlus has had a bumpy few years, this can be felt most in Europe, with things such as the game breaking bug on Devil Survivor Overclocked where the game crashed upon selecting Summon on the European version and the 9 month delay of their 2D fighter with Arc Systems Persona 4 Arena in Europe, finally seeing a release over there last month.

It sad to hear something like this happening to Atlus. Who would you like to see buy Atlus, NIS, Square Enix or another company? Be sure to give your views in the comments below.
