Telltale Games, the creators of the popular episodic Walking Dead titles, has revealed to IGN that their next project will be based on the Fables comic book series from DC. Titled The Wolf Among Us, players will play as Bigby Wolf (The Big Bad Wolf) as he tries to keep other fairy tale characters, which include Mr. Toad and the Three Little Pigs, from being undetected in our world.

The Wolf Among Us will take place prior to the events in the comics. For those who are unaware of the comics, Fables are characters from fair tales who have been exiled to New York City and have formed a clandestine community called Fabletown. The characters who can’t blend in with society live at “the farm.” The comic is a bit grittier than what we normally associate with fairy tale characters as you can see from the photo above with the chain smoking Bigby.

“Developing The Wolf Among Us based on the Fables universe has allowed our studio to build upon all of the hallmarks of what makes our episodic series so engaging for players,” said Telltale CEO Dan Connors. “Through an evolution of our approach to choice and consequence, we can further explore the complexity of each and every iconic character in a universe rich with untold history from the darkest sides of the storybooks.”

Fables has been praised by critics and readers. Having read a few volumes myself and I can safely say that if Telltale’s writing is anywhere close to what the comic is, this is going to be another hit episodic series. The Wolf Among Us is set to arrive on Xbox 360, PC, Mac and PlayStation 3 this summer.
