Square Enix President Steps Down

Square Enix President Steps Down

In a notice from Square Enix, it is announced that Yoichi Wada will be stepping down from his position as President and Representative Director come this June. Taking over for him will be Yosuke Matsuda.

This resignation comes as part of Square Enix’s plans to make some financial revisions as the company “expects to incur extraordinary loss in the settlement of the accounts for its fiscal year ending March 31, 2013.” Slow sales of major console titles and sluggish arcade performance are cited as the reasons behind the now forecast ¥13 billion compared to the previous ¥3.5 billion predicted.

While this news is a bit surprising, one has to wonder just what all Square Enix has planned in case this move doesn’t help the company improve its sales. Perhaps this will be what the company needs to decide to go ahead and give fans what they have been wanting for ages now: a Final Fantasy 7 remake.
