Disney Infinity Delayed Until August

disney starter pack sweeps

The release date for Disney Infinity has been pushed back to an August release date which Disney feels is a “more favorable” retail window. Disney Infinity will now release on August 18th in the U.S. and August 20th overseas.

Disney Interactive co-president, John Pleasants, claims that it is not due to issues with the game:

“We could deliver in June if we wanted to,” he said, “Will a two-month timing change help us? Sure, of course. It gives us a little more time to add bells and whistles and make sure it really sings and pops.”

The June release window was probably to coincide with the release of Monsters University, seeing as the Monsters pack has been at the forefront of the promotion thus far. On the financial side, Disney hoped that Disney Infinity would bring some much needed profitability to Disney Interactive before the end of the fiscal year, but with the delay the New York Times is expecting the revenue from the upcoming title will be pushed to 2014.

With Skylanders next game coming out in the fall, there probably won’t be too much competition for Disney Infinity in August, but a nice bump from the Monsters University movie would have been nice. Hopefully this doesn’t do anything to hurt the title as this is looking to be a very promising game for Disney.

Disney Infinity is set to release across all platforms and will retail for $75 with standalone characters costing $12 each.
