Gabe Newell Confirms The Steam Box

Gabe Newell Confirms The Steam Box

Well, it’s finally official.

After months of speculation and rumors regarding Valve’s possible venture into consoles, Gabe Newell let the cat out of the bag at the 2012 Spike Video Game Awards. When asked if Steam would move into living rooms, Newell said:

Well certainly our hardware will be a very controlled environment. If you want more flexibility, you can always buy a more general purpose PC. For people who want a more turnkey solution, that’s what some people are really gonna want for their living room.

The controlled environment, to many, translates to a console but from what we know about Valve and how innovative they are, don’t expect a traditional console experience. Newell also went on to say that living room PC’s will probably be the wave of the future in regards to living room gaming.
