Nintendo Power To Cease Publication

Nintendo Power To Cease Publication

After 24 years of publication, Nintendo Power may finally hang up its “M” hat and call it a day. According to Ars Technica, Nintendo has decided to part ways with Nintendo Power due to the game publisher’s unwillingness to renew their contract with Future Publishing, the company that was contracted in 2007 to give Nintendo Power a more independent angle. Nintendo has been characterized as “difficult to work with” is rumored to be  uninterested in moving Nintendo Power to digital distribution, a lucrative avenue for both Nintendo and Future. It has also been speculated that Nintendo doesn’t seem interested in taking direct control of the magazine either. Nintendo Power editors and other staff members were told of the impending shut down and are currently being transitioned to work on Future’s other properties (i.e. GamesRadar, MacLife).

The Nintendo Power closing was later confirmed by Nintendo Power senior editor Chris Hoffman and writer Phil Theobald on twitter but the tweets have since been removed.
