Rumor: 343 Industries Working on Halo 2 HD Remake

In the rumors section of the most recent issue of the Official Xbox Magazine UK, the magazine claims that a Halo 2 HD remake edition is in the works at 343 Industries.

“Following the success of the remake Halo Anniversary, 343 Industries has now started development of Halo 2 Anniversary,” the magazine writes, without specifying its source.

If the rumor is true, this will be the second Anniversary/HD remake from 343 Industries. Last November, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary edition released with warm reception and seeing as how Halo 2 is often thought of as the pinnacle of the series, this release might be an even larger success.

For me, Halo 2 (not including the rampant cheating and moding that occurred, which led to massive amounts of players banned from XBL) was one of the best console multiplayer FPS titles since Perfect Dark. Almost all the maps were perfectly designed, the game emphasized teamwork and controlling power weapons. Objective based games were just as competitive as deathmatches, and it wasn’t always about how your K/D ratio was as much a how good your W/L ratio was.

Since Halo 2, there has been this onslaught of a “one man solider” mentality not even Bungie was immune to. Those FPS’s are a lot of fun, but pale in comparison to a game that required teamwork, communication and strategy. I can only hope that this rumor is true and that they bring back Halo 2 online multiplayer, a proper multiplayer, not a mix of Halo: Reach and Halo 2.
