Fassbender to Star in and Co-Produce Assassin’s Creed Movie

Fassbender to Star in and Co-Produce Assassin’s Creed Movie

According to Variety Michael Fassbender will star in and co-produce the first Assassin’s Creed film. Late last year, Ubisoft was in talks with Sony to develop the series of AC movies, but now it looks like Ubisoft might be developing it independently.

“Michael Fassbender was our first choice” to play the franchise’s iconic hooded hero, said Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Paris-based Ubisoft Motion Pictures. “Michael (Fassbender) is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor.”

I agree. Fassbender was awesome in X-Men and Prometheus, so why not give him a shot at playing an Assassin. It also makes sense that Ubisoft wants more creative control. After what happened with Prince of Persia, they want to have as much control as they can. They will even be turning to an in-house team to create the visual effects for the movie, limiting cost and risk. Sony can still end up dristubting the film but Ubisoft will end up picking the writer and director.

However they choose the make the movie, the content is there for this to be a really good video game movie. Think back to the first Assassin’s Creed trailer and how elaborate and stunning it was. The story has been a little hit-and-miss, but has always been entertaining; the content is there for them to do something with it, it’s just finding a director and writer that can put it all together to keep people engaged for more than a few minutes.
