Rumor: A Slimmer PS3 Model is on the Way

An FCC filing was spotted by Japanese website Pocket News that could point to a new 4000-series PS3 model. This model would be an update over the current 3000 model, which could mean this new model would be even slimmer.

According to other rumors, Eurogamer has claimed that Sony is preparing to announce a slimmer model next month at Gamescom. Sony has announced a new PS3 model at Gamescom in the past, so it wouldn’t be the first time. Sony announced the PS3 Slim in 2009 at Gamescom.

Adding to the rumors, Eurogamer asked Sony Worldwide Studios’ Shuhei Yoshida about offering a new PS3 model and the response was, “we should never say never—hardware guys are always looking at ways to make things cheaper, smaller.”

At least we won’t have to wait too long to find out if this rumor is true. Either way, unless this new slimmer model turns out to be real cheap, I’m not so sure that this is going to bring in a ton of new PS3 owners.
