E3 2012: The Unfinished Swan Could Strike Indie Gold

The PlayStation Network has seen no shortage of bewildering indie hits, but the latest creation from Sony Santa Monica and developer Giant Sparrow might be the strangest of all. The Unfinished Swan seeks to give players a blank canvas on which to paint a journey in search of the titular swan, and you’ve never seen anything like it.

The game begins within a completely white space, and through button-mashing, players will soon discover the ability to shoot a ball of black paint forward. In first-person, you will continue to paint the environment, creating silhouettes and paint splashes that gradually begin to reveal the unfinished landscape that surrounds you. Much of the game’s story and objectives are stooped in mystery, but more traditional levels scattered throughout will help break up the intensity of this bizarre, minimalist experience.

Unfortunately, Giant Sparrow is mum on both a release date and potential Vita version. Still, it’s hard not to be excited for such a genuinely puzzling concept.
