E3 2012: Skiing in Sports Champions 2 Might Make a Believer Out of Me

E3 2012: Skiing in Sports Champions 2 Might Make a Believer Out of Me

I’m all for innovation in gaming, but Sony’s attempt to join the motion control fray has been largely disappointing. PlayStation Move controls have been shoe-horned into a variety of triple-A titles, but it’s the killer apps – the games that are truly built on the motion experience – that can make or break new technology. With that in mind, I must say: Sports Champions 2 has me legitimately excited.

You see, I’m a winter sports junkie. Snowboarding and skiing are in my blood, and I’ve been doing both semi-successfully for many years. When I heard that Skiing would debut as an event in Sports Champions 2, I was immediately intrigued. Despite the lack of standout games for the accessory, I’ve always been impressed by the relative accuracy of Move’s 1:1 motion. If this can translate effectively into genuine fun, I’ll be happy to adopt Move and hit the virtual slopes. However, I’m afraid that longtime skiiers might find a disconnect between the leg-centric movements of actual skiing and the hand-heavy controls of Sports Champions 2.

We’ll find out how things come together this holiday season. In the meantime, stay tuned to Vivid Gamer for more E3 2012 coverage.
