Kingdom Hearts HD Remix Could See E3 Reveal for PS3, Vita, Wii U

Kingdom Hearts HD Remix Could See E3 Reveal for PS3, Vita, Wii U

The increasingly fragmented nature of the Kingdom Hearts RPG series has been a sticking point for loyal fans in recent years, but with Kingdom Hearts III looking more and more likely as the next installment after July’s Dream Drop Distance, there’s never been a better time to look back on where the franchise has been. If a recent report from Dual Pixels is to be believed, we may get just that.

According to anonymous source Geno, Kingdom Hearts: HD Remix (or, Kingdom Hearts: Remembrance - it’s not clear which), will be announced at E3 2012 next week. The collection will feature remastered versions of the following Kingdom Hearts titles, which comprise the entire series canon up to the events of Dream Drop Distance:

  • Kingdom Hearts
  • Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories
  • Kingdom Hearts II
  • Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days
  • Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep

Geno, who was the first Internet source to leak the existence of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2, claims that the collection will feature new side quests that wrap up and tie together various plot points of the series. The Wii U version in particular will make direct connections with Dream Drop Distance.  Kingdom Hearts: Remembrance would be the first collection of its kind on the PS Vita, and would likely feature stereoscopic 3D and Trophies on Sony platforms.

It’s also unclear whether Chain of Memories would exist as a remastered version of the GBA original or PS2 remake; my bet’s on the latter. Furthermore, one might expect significant graphical improvements (beyond up-ressing) to be made to 358/2 Days and Birth by Sleep, along the lines of the aforementioned Chain of Memories re-release.

Stay tuned to Vivid Gamer for more on this rumor, including a potential E3 reveal. Until then, sound off in the comments and tell us what you’d like to see in a Kingdom Hearts collection.
