Xbox Marketplace Update: April 25, 2012

Xbox Marketplace Update: April 25, 2012

In honor of the upcoming NBA Playoffs, this week’s deal is NBA focused. We’ve also got two new arcade releases, a couple demos, and some welcome Games on Demand to enjoy this week. This is, of course, assuming that you’re not already enjoying last week’s Trials Evolution. If you haven’t yet, do yourself a favor and download the record-breaking Trials Evolution and see what all the fuss is about.

Deal of the Week

  • NBA Jam: On Fire Edition – 1200 pts 800 pts – This classic arcade franchise made a splash with it’s retail release and now you can get all the “boom-shakalaka” action you want with (arguably) the superior download. At only $10 this is truly a steal and is one of the best arcade sports games out today.
  • NBA 2K11 Slam Dunk (Avatar) – 240 pts 120 pts – This prop lets you watch your avatar dunk on a mini basketball hoop. That’s it. Here’s a better idea, why don’t you spend the $1.50 on a great indie title instead of spending it on a prop you can only see when you’re staring idly at the dashboard. Better yet, click here and see it for yourself. Boom. Saved you $1.50. You’re welcome.

Games on Demand

  • Dead Rising 2: Off The Record – $19.99 – For those that couldn’t handle playing Dead Rising 2 without the first games protagonist, enjoy Off the Record. Frank West returns with his trusty camera and quips in this enhanced re-release of the zombie killing smash.
  • Catherine – 3200 pts ($40!) – This mature puzzle adventure stars Vincent as he balances a crazy love triangle between his girlfriend Katherine and the tantalizing Catherine. An enjoyable (though admittedly odd) puzzle title that may not be for everyone, but is definitely enjoyable now available for Games on Demand. For more details, check out Rebecca’s review here.
  • Rapala Pro Bass Fishing – $29.99 – Join the world of professional bass tournaments with hair-raising angling action. Launch your bass boat onto seven of North America’s top freshwater lakes, pull in the heaviest catch and blow away your competition at the final weigh-in. Arm yourself with real Rapala lures and cast it, crank it and catch it across 20+ tournament events.
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 – $39.99 – Join the countless amounts of prepubescent teens as they curse you to kingdom come with noob tubes, awful spawns, latency issues and some poor design choices. The special ops mode is still tons of fun but be prepared for nothing but camping, the sound of multiple noob tubes flying your way, and even more ridiculous quick-scoping action in Activision’s most recent cash cow. How about I guide you to a better alternative right here?

Notable DLC

  • Dragon’s Dogma – Demo – Whet your appetite with a taste of the high fantasy, open world action that Dragon’s Dogma has to offer in this demo. Battle as an Arisen of the past or rid the countryside of a fearsome magickal beast — the choice is yours. Use the robust character creation tool to customize your Arisen and main pawn, play them in the Countryside Quest now, and import them into the full game later. From height to hairstyle, eye color to nose shape, mold your heroes as you see fit.
  • Ninja Gaiden 3 – Demo – Feel the burden of cutting another person down in the latest chapter of the acclaimed action series. Jump into the action as the thrilling battle unfolds in the streets of London. This demo also lets you try out two downloadable weapons — the Falcon’s Talons and the Eclipse Scythe.

Purchase the Evil Empire and enter the fray as the Russian Army in an all new single-player campaign, new minigames, survival mode: trauma, barrage: orbital laser, multiplayer and survival maps perfect for co-op. Like the above DLC, this too comes with three new achievements worth 50 gamerscore.
