Nintendo Claims Super Mario 4 Domain

Mario may be dusting off his cape after all. A recent post by IGN revealed that Nintendo, a few days ago, registered a domain for supermario4.com. The publisher doesn’t seem shy of the registry either (typing in the web address directs you to Nintendo’s official website).

To add to the news, at its last investor’s presentation in January, the company stated that it was working on a new 2D Mario adventure game.

Gametrailers, on hearing of the recent registry, dug up a past interview with Shigeru Miyamoto and IGN that may shed some light on the next Mario title:

A lot of the ideas that I would have liked to implement in Super Mario World have come to life in later Mario games since then,” he said. “But the question gets me thinking about what fun it would be to create a Super Mario World game on the Nintendo 3DS and how we could use the depth and the sense of distance offered by 3D visual on the world map and on the maps in that game, so that you have Bullet Bills flying at you from a distance and popping up off the screen.

It is important to note that this isn’t concrete evidence, but it would be a blast if Mario revisited his exploits that began on the SNES.
