Resistance Burning Skies Brings Competitive FPS Action to Vita

Resistance Burning Skies Brings Competitive FPS Action to Vita

Insomniac Games may have said its goodbyes to the Resistance franchise, but Nihilistic Software hopes to keep the Chimeran fight alive on PlayStation Vita. The first two Resistance installments on PS3 were known for innovative multiplayer features (especially with regard to player count). Nihilistic may be taking a much more conservative approach with Resistance: Burning Skies, but that doesn’t mean there are no competitive FPS thrills to be had. Let’s take a look at what’s coming on May 29, courtesy of the official PlayStation Blog.

8-Player Multiplayer

Burning Skies will feature both concentrated 2v2 and larger 4v4 matches in Team Deathmatch and an as-yet unannounced mode (standard Deathmatch will also be available). Quick Match can get you into a game immediately with automatic matchmaking, but the Vita’s Party application can also be used for friends to gather up and join private games.

Ranking Up

Much like other modern shooters, Resistance: Burning Skies¬†will feature a level-up system and XP that is earned through killing enemies and winning matches. Leveling up will unlock many of the same weapons and upgrades from the single-player campaign. The Vita’s Near app also gets some love – the details are still hazy, but a new social perk will allow you to earn XP multipliers with Near.

Custom Weapons

Nihilistic says that weapon upgrades you purchase can be freely slotted and unslotted as you see fit. Some of these will change your weapon’s visual look. One such upgrade is the Bullseye’s Explosive Tags, which give a fiery punch to the weapon’s signature round. Opponents will be able to take your upgraded weapon if you fall in combat, so stay on your toes to keep their kill counts low.

Resistance: Burning Skies launches on May 29. If you live in the San Francisco Bay Area, you can RSVP for a Burning Skies multiplayer meet-up next week. Head here for details.
