Mojang’s Notch Details Next Title: 0x10c

Mojang’s Markus “Notch” Persson has unveiled the first batch of details on his follow-up to the mega-franchise Minecraft in 0x10c. Described as a space game looking to include engineering, mining, trading, looting, and battling with AI and other players.

Taking place in the year 281 474 976 712 644 AD, lost people begin to wake up on a ship from an accidentally extended deep sleep to a universe on the brink of extinction. Each ship available will have a generator capable of producing a fixed wattage, and everything you connect to it drains wattage. The computer in the game is a fully functioning emulated 16 bit CPU that can be used to control your entire ship, or just to play games on while waiting for a large mining operation to finish.”

Though the game is quite early in development, Notch is expecting to release the game early like with Minecraft and let the players help shape the game as it grows. Unlike Minecraft, 0x10c will likely adopt a monthly fee for joining the “Multiverse” as the servers will emulate all computers and physics even when players aren’t logged in. The single-player won’t have any recurring fees however so those looking to test the game out before venturing online will have the opportunity to do so.
