2011 Happier For Game Developers

2011 Happier For Game Developers

In another story related to Game Developer magazine’s Game Developer Salary Survey, it appears that game developers were happier and were laid off less in 2011. Thirteen percent stated that they were laid off in 2011, which was down from fourteen percent from 2010 and 2009.

Those that were laid off managed to find a job in the mainstream games industry more than in 2010; about 58 percent managed to, up from 52 percent in 2010.

Salaries also increased a little bit, up from $80,817 in 2010 to $81,192 in 2011. Sixty-six percent of the developers that responded to the survey said that they made more in 2011 than they had in years past, up from 56 percent. Having a little bit extra money made the developers a bit happier with their careers as a whole.

The “self-reportage” developers also said that they were either “satisfied” or “extremely satisfied” with their careers, which was up from 61 percent in 2010, to 65%.
