Sony Announces “One Sony”; New Business Strategy to Focus on Gaming and Mobile Devices

Sony is hoping to turn a new leaf and kickstart financial success with a new approach to decision-making and product development. Enter “One Sony”, a new initiative by the electronics manufacturer to focus its efforts and bolster communication between the formerly disparate divisions of Sony. Starting April 1, the program will position digital imaging, gaming, and mobile devices as Sony’s three cornerstones of business.

Corresponding to this decision, new program heads have also been appointed. Shoji Nemoto will develop technology strategies by identifying new business and R&D opportunities. Meanwhile, Kunimasa Suzuki has been selected to lead the UX and Product Strategy Group. Suzuki is notable as one of the company’s outspoken advocates for porting the PlayStation Vita’s OS to mobile devices, opening the door for expanding IP and encouraging small-scale development of games and other apps that share connections with the PlayStation brand. Suzuki will now be in charge of improving and unifying the user experience across devices, and it’ll be interesting to see how his vision for Vita’s OS plays out in the coming months and years.

Finally, CEO Kazuo Hirai is bringing his personal brand of efficiency and decision-making to Sony’s home entertainment division, which includes televisions, Blu-Ray players, and PlayStation consoles.
