Ratchet & Clank Collection Revealed, 3D Support and Multiplayer Incoming

With The Sly Collection and Jak & Daxter Collection tearing up store shelves and reigniting nostalgic passion, it’s no small wonder that Sony is digging back into its PS2-era platformers to round out the HD remasters with fan favorites Ratchet and Clank. Speculation that Insomniac would re-release its PS2 classics Ratchet & Clank, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, and Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal and complete “The Big Three” on PS3 has been running high. Insomniac CEO Ted Price confirmed these rumors moments ago via the official PlayStation Blog. According to Price, the Ratchet & Clank Collection will include the Lombax’s first three PS2 adventures alongside the following features:

  • 1080p output
  • 720p stereoscopic 3D
  • Full Trophy support (three Platinum Trophies available)
  • Up Your Arsenal multiplayer suite

It appears that the Ratchet & Clank Collection will be a step up from its PS3 brethren with the inclusion of competitive multiplayer, a mode which many gamers did not experience during its first appearance in Up Your Arsenal. Price went on to state that the HD collection will be available in Europe on May 16, but the North American release will not appear until sometime this fall. Price also claimed that there is a special reason behind the gap. Insomniac is planning some kind of celebration for Ratchet & Clank’s 10th anniversary, and the delayed North American release ties into this somehow.
