Xbox Marketplace Update: March 14, 2012

Following last week’s less then stellar update, we’ve got two new arcade releases today as well as 16 different deals this week! The Deal of the Week highlights ‘Hack-n-Slash’ titles while a special Konami sale has a dozen different titles on sale for half off. There isn’t much of note in DLC this week, but with the amount of cheap deals available, I’m sure most of you won’t mind.

Defenders of Ardania is a next generation tower defense game set in the fantasy world of Majesty, where you can take control over both the defending- and the attacking sides. The game is set in the fantasy world of Majesty with 3 different playable races, each with their own, distinguishable locations, towers, and units. Its innovative new game concept adds a RTS element and takes the popular genre to a new level. Multiplayer offers three different game modes with the players assuming either the defensive or the offensive sides – or both!

Shoot Many Robots

Release Date: March 14, 2012
Price: 800 pts
Developer: Demiurge
Publisher: Ubisoft

Shoot Many Robots is a 4-player co-op run-n’-gun action game starring robot slayer and gun aficionado, P. Walter Tugnut. From a gun that shoots garden gnome missiles to a tutu that boosts speed and damage, there are hundreds of crazy guns and gear to unlock that boost Walter’s stats – not to mention, make him look pretty. You and three friends can team up to exterminate a zillion robots while progressing through tons of missions, facing uncomfortably epic bosses, and leveling up along the way.

 Games on Demand

  • Rock of the Dead – $19.99 – Riff your way through the infected masses to the soul-ripping tunes of Rob Zombie and save the world. Pretty much Typing of the Dead with Guitar Hero peripherals. Aside from great voiceovers by Neil Patrick Harris and Felicia Day, this game is entirely passable.
  • The Gunstringer (Kinect) – $29.99 – One of the better Kinect titles, control the skeleton marionette in an on-rails shooter from the creators of Splosion Man and Comic Jumper. I’ve already reviewed this title previously and despite it’s problems, I’d recommend it to anyone that owns a Kinect. At $29.99 though you may as well pick up a retail copy since it comes with a free code for Fruit Ninja Kinect.
  • Warhammer 40k Space Marine – $39.99 – Step into the heart of combat as Captain Titus of the Ultramarines, unleashing visible violent death against the enemies of mankind in the first 3rd person action shooter set in the dark future of the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
  • Brink – $19.99 – This first-person shooter blends single-player, co-op, and multiplayer gameplay into one seamless experience, allowing you to develop your character regardless of mode. Experiencing the entertaining story from both sides of the fight is entertaining and enjoyable though I can’t stress enough that you need to play with friends. The AI is broken and your squadmates often hinder more then help.

Notable DLC

  • Major League Baseball 2K12 – Demo – Check out the longest running MLB franchise’s demo from 2K Sports featuring advanced pitching & hitting controls, detailed player tendencies & scouting reports, and immersive game modes for any level of fan.
  • Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm Generations – Demo – The latest rendition in the smash hit series, this title ramps up the number of playable and support characters far beyond any Naruto game. Compete in a variety of online battle modes, personalized tournaments, and enjoy improved gameplay in Namco’s newest entry.
  • UFC Undisputed 3 Fighter Pack: Fight of the Night (Add-On) – 400 pts – Download five new fighters known for always putting on a show in the Fight of the Night pack. Lightweights Charles Oliveira, Sam Stout, and Joe Lauzon join the fray as does welterweights Rory MacDonald and former UFC fighter Anthony Johnson.
  • Call of Duty MW 3 March Content – (Elite Premium Members Only) – Battle it out in the newest level “Black Box” set near a downed Air Force One. Multi-level homes overlook the neighboring streets, creating a deadly kill zone for players on the ground. If competitive isn’t your thing, check out the new Spec Ops missions “Black Ice” and “Negotiator”. Shred ice from aboard your snowmobile as you infiltrate a diamond mind or cash in all your karma as you head to India for a high-stakes hostage extraction.
