Notch Liberal Toward Internet Piracy

Notch Liberal Toward Internet Piracy

During a recent interview with Chris Heckler at GDC, Notch, the creator of Minecraft, spoke about piracy and its effect on companies and the internet.

On the issue Notch said:

“If someone copies your game a trillion times, you won’t have lost a single cent. Some people are using that to ruin the internet.”

It is assumed that Notch is referring to the SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) legislation that loomed a few months ago. The bill, if passed, would have made it hard to distribute pirated materials but would have also limited the ability to share content on the internet.

Notch went on to say the following:

“I still think piracy is wrong, but the the level of wrong me calling my friend an idiot. It’s wrong but it’s such a minor thing. It’s ridiculously small.”

Where do you come down on the piracy issue? Sound off in the comments section below.
