No Steam Box Any Time Soon

The much-rumored “Steam Box” that Valve was reportedly working on appears to be just that, a rumor.

Valve marketing director Doug Lombardi said, “We’re prepping the Steam Big Picture Mode UI and getting ready to ship that, so we’re building boxes to test that on…  We’re also doing a bunch of different experiments with biometric feedback and stuff like that, which we’ve talked about a fair amount.”  Lombardi continued driving a nail into the coffin of the Steam Box in the near-future by stating “All of that is stuff that we’re working on, but it’s a long way from Valve shipping any sort of hardware.”

The Verge was the first website to report that Valve was working on a console through various partnerships with hardware manufactures, citing patents and Valve’s interest in tracking and reacting to a person’s biometrics.

For now however, Valve is assuring gamers that there will not be a Valve console any time soon.
