Bitzens Take To The Skies with NimbleBit’s Pocket Planes

Bitzens Take To The Skies with NimbleBit’s Pocket Planes

Touch Arcade sat down with the guys from NimbleBit at GDC to discuss their next game, Pocket Planes. The game is still in the very early stages of development, and it’s possible a lot will change from now until the expected summer release, but it looks like Bitzens will be moving on up–to the skies.

The game is basically a time management/strategy title, in which you must build up your own airline from a small one-plane operation into a huge fleet by ferrying cargo and people to and from different cities. Apparently, you’ll increase your fleet by using “Plane Bucks” (final name to be determined), that will be available through in-app purchases (IAP), but like Tower Bux in Tiny Tower, can also be earned by doing various things in the game without spending any real money if you wish.

It looks like the game will potentially involve more strategy than Tiny Tower, because the farther you go, the more coins you’ll use to get there. So you might want to decide if it’s better to try to fly somewhere far directly, or perhaps load up with passengers and cargo for both your ultimate destination and a layover point. And that’s just the beginning. Each plane has its own stats, so as you progress and unlock new planes and airports, you will definitely have the opportunity to develop your own play style.

Even though the game is in an early, pre-beta phase, I’m already excited. Despite its detractors, I really enjoy NimbleBits’ other games and this one sounds like it has the potential to be even more engaging than their other efforts.
