Highlights From Microsoft Spring Showcase

Highlights From Microsoft Spring Showcase

Last week in San Francisco, Microsoft held a special media event to showcase some upcoming content for the Xbox 360, Kinect, Xbox LIVE Arcade, Games for Windows and Windows Phone titles. The press release covered some obvious inclusions (Halo 4) but also revealed some info about a couple brand new titles. I’ve highlighted some of the more notable announcements with the entire press release available at Major Nelson’s website.

Xbox 360

  • Forza Horizon – A fast-paced, pick-up-and-play racing game that is the newest entry into the Forza Motorsport franchise. Available this Fall, the game is being created in partnership with acclaimed racing development studio Playground Games.
  • Gears of War 3 – The “Forces of Nature” map pack will be available March 27 and will feature five maps, new characters, new weapon skins and a 250 gamerscore boost. Also, Gears of War 3 will be available through Games on Demand the same day.

  • Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition – Coming to Xbox LIVE Arcade this Spring, the Xbox 360 version will be the first time Mojang’s hit graces consoles. No word yet on major changes but split-screen multiplayer has been confirmed.
  • Wreckateer – Using the Kinect, players control a massive castle-wrecking ballista destroying 60 castles infested with goblins.
  • Fable Heroes – A fresh spin on the Fable franchise, this action-packed hack-and-slash adventure is coming soon to Xbox LIVE Arcade. Lionhead Studios uses avatar style visuals in this cutesy looking multiplayer romp.
  • Trials Evolution – The physics-based motorcycle hit is making it’s return with new maps, multiplayer modes, new game types, and a level/game editor that seems to take influence from PlayStation 3 hit Little Big Planet.
  • Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD – Taking the best elements from Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 & 2, this arcade title upgrades them with sharp visuals and fresh content.
  • South Park: Tenorman’s Revenge – This multiplayer title stars Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman as they take on Tenorman and his army of Ginger robots.
  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive – The all-new “Demolition” mode delivers a fast-paced game experience made up of tight small maps to get into the action quickly.
  • Quantum Conundrum – Enter the “heavy dimension” in the latest environment-bending feature in the quirky, first-person puzzle game Quantum Conundrum from Square Enix and Airtight Games.
  • Bloodforge – Combining devastating melee, ranged and magical attacks to deliver a fast-paced, bloodthirsty, brutal combat experience available exclusively on Xbox LIVE Arcade.
  • Deadlight – This brand new experience is a narrative-driven puzzle platformer set in the post-apocalyptic 80s devastated by a zombie epidemic. Hopefully this game can be more appealing then it’s ho-hum “been-there-done-that” setting appears to be.
  • Diabolical Pitch – Available April 4, this Kinect title turns living rooms into playing fields and the Diabolical Pitch is the main attraction. Apparently this game is a crazy baseball game from the mind of Suda 51 (No More Heroes, Shadows of the Damned) and appears to be an on-rails title similar to House of the Dead?
  • Joe Danger: The Movie – The sequel to the recently released Joe Danger, race jetpacks against hoverboards and skis against skidoos in all-new multiplayer modes as well as improved mechanics throughout.

You can check out more highlights including Windows Phone coverage as well as videos at Major Nelson’s website here. Unfortunately, the descriptions provided are far from helpful giving minor information at best.
