3DS Reaches 5 Million Sales In Japan, Sets New Record

The Nintendo 3DS sales have picked up considerably following the price cut enacted a couple of months ago, reaching record numbers in Japan. According to a recent statement by Nintendo and information from Mediacreate, the 3D handheld has reached a staggering 5 million sales in Japan in just 52 weeks after launch, unseating its predecessor, the Nintendo DS, which reached 5 million sales in 56 weeks. The 3DS now holds the title of fastest selling system in Japan’s history. Previously, the DS had outsold its predecessor, the Game Boy Advance, by two weeks.
