Valve May Enter Hardware Market

Valve May Enter Hardware Market

There is a possibility that Valve may enter into hardware sales. At least that is what managing director Gabe Newell implied. If it can drive innovation, then there is that possibility. “If we have to sell hardware we will,” he said.

When speaking with Penny Arcade, he indicated that Valve would rather rely on the hardware manufacturers to make the hardware, as they have other concerns. It’s not their primary business.

“We have no reason to believe we’re any good at it, it’s more we think that we need to continue to have innovation and if the only way to get these kind of projects started is by us going and developing and selling the hardware directly then that’s what we’ll do.”

He also mentioned Valve upgrades their internal hardware every six months. Newell maintained the line that they would rather develop in other areas outside of hardware, but if that is where the innovation is going to come from, then they will get into the hardware market.
