Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet Wins IAFS Award

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet Wins IAFS Award

The International Animated Film Society has named Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet the “Best Animated Video Game” of 2011.  This distinction is part of the IAFS’ Annie Awards, honoring outstanding animation across various media.

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet beat out finalists including Insomniac Games’ Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One, Ubisoft Montpellier’s gorgeous platformer Rayman Origins, Naughty Dog’s epic Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, Konami’s Gesundheit, and Epic Games’ Gears of War 3.  Handheld/mobile titles like Capcom’s Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective and Simogo’s Bumpy Road were also nominated by the board of directors of IFSA, the organizer behind the Annie Awards.

Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet was released during 2011′s Summer of Arcade promotion and was developed by Shadow Planet Productions.  Boasting a beautifully twisted world designed by Michel Gagne (from the film The Iron Giant), the game blended Metroidesque exploration with Geometry Wars-like controls creating one of the best experiences to grace the XBLA last year.  I was thoroughly impressed with the level of detail put into the game, scoring it a 9 in my review, and am glad to see it being recognized on a wider scale.
