Steam App Enters Closed Beta Stage

Steam App Enters Closed Beta Stage

Valve is looking to get mobile functionality for Steam, their digital distribution platform that has seen continued success since its initial release. Announced on January 26th, the Steam application for iOS and Android devices has officially made its  way into closed beta testing. Reports state that the application will allow the user  to “chat with friends, see what people are playing, browse groups, and view screenshots.” The app, however, will not be able to load and play games like its desktop counterpart.

With the recent news involving the Steam App, Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve, stated:

“The Steam app comes from many direct requests from our customers. Seeing which of your friends are online and playing a game, sending quick messages, looking at screenshots for an upcoming game, or catching a sale – these are all features customers have requested. Mobile is changing way people interact, play games and consume media, and the Steam app is part of our commitment to meet customer demands and expand the service functionality of Steam to make it richer and more accessible for everyone.”
