Developer: Neko Entertainment
Publisher: Konami Digital Entertainment Inc.
What began as a student project that won a Student Showcase prize at Independent Gaming Festival at GDC 2010 is now a full-fledged downloadable game experience like nothing you’ve ever played before. Guide puddles of fluid through a variety of novel, themed environments (the human body, a garden, a foundry, and more). But to do so, you must tilt the environment, balancing each fluid’s unique properties with the environmental factors of gravity, friction, and each course’s obstacles.
QUARREL!

Price: 400 pts
Developer: Denki
Publisher: UTV Ignition
QUARREL is the most novel word game ever made. But don’t just take our word for it – grab it now and enter a universe where WORDS (11 points) literally speak louder than ACTIONS (8 points). Use a cool combination of word power and strategic cunning to crush your opponents and reign supreme. Come settle your differences with wordplay rather than swordplay; make verbal not chemical weapons; load up with letters not bullets and use chatter to batter your enemies into submission and rule the world. Compete to use your troops to make the highest-scoring word from the letters given then capture territories and conquer islands in this wholly original virtual board game
Games on Demand
  • Duke Nukem Forever – $19.99 – After years stuck in development hell, Duke has finally released.  Unfortunately, he’s lost his step with bland one-liners, abysmal gameplay, and mechanics still stuck in the 90′s.  It’s often referred to as the worst game of 2011 and though I wouldn’t go that far, I must admit that it was one of the least enjoyable experiences I’ve had in recent memory.

Notable DLC

  • UFC Undisputed 3 – Demo – The guys at THQ have taken some extra development time with their newest iteration in the popular MMA series and from the looks of it, it’s paid off.  Over 150 fighters join the fray with even more balanced mechanics, improved gameplay, and the inclusion of a Pride mode with it’s unique rules and commentators.  The demo lets players square off in the cage as Jon Jones or Anderson Silva, or take to the ring in Pride with classic rivals Wanderlei Silva or Rampage Jackson.
  • Assassins Creed Revelations – Mediterranean Traveler (add-on)800 pts – Extend your multiplayer experience with the addition of 6 new maps, each introducing new gameplay opportunities through their varied terrains, perches, and hideouts.  This new add-on also comes with a new collection of Achievements for those that want to try their hand at kills and escapes that are as impressive as they are effective.
  • CoD: Modern Warfare 3 Maps – Exclusive to premium Elite members - Piazza Map ~ This seaside Italian getaway is anything but idyllic, as tight corners and branching pathways pose great risk at every turn. Close-range combat dominates, and the team that best utilizes flanking routes will most often come out on top. Attacks from behind, above and below are an ever-constant threat. Keep up your awareness and don’t get taken by surprise.  Liberation Map ~A militarized Central Park stretches across a vast landscape, ripe for long-range sniper and LMG fire. Mounted turrets on either end lend power to anyone brave enough to expose themselves in exchange for deadly firepower. Plan out your movement and always be aware of nearby sightlines to avoid becoming fodder for the enemy.

Not the best week for the marketplace in terms of new content, but we have tons to look forward to next month.  Bastion goes on sale next week for half off, and we have the Xbox Live House Party kicking off February 15.  Thanks for reading, and come back next week for the Xbox Marketplace Update.
