Skyrim Most Played Game of 2011

Skyrim Most Played Game of 2011

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the kind of game that might scary away casual gamers while beckoning to the hardcore crowd – the hundreds of hours of gameplay embedded within can attest to that. Still, it seems that the daunting challenge of adventuring in Bethesda’s latest RPG and becoming Dragonborn wasn’t enough to scare away the masses. Game-tracking service Raptr reports that Skyrim is the most played game of 2011. This honor is based on the activity of more than 10 million Raptr users across PC and console.

Raptr also payed homage to the other big-hitters of the year. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 took home the award for most played shooter, while DC Universe Online struck gold as the most successful paid to free-to-play game; the title raked in 1 million new users in its first week of going F2P. Meanwhile, Skyrim cleaned house as the most played RPG while FIFA 12 took home the honor of most played sports game.

The awards extend to other titles as well. Fan-favorite Batman: Arkham City took home the award for most played open-world game and The Sims Social was the most played social game. Interestingly, Rockstar Games made a splash this year with LA Noire, which was the most played new IP of 2011.

What do you think of these awards? Any personal favorites in these genres that missed the cut? Sound off in the comments below.
