Digital Region Locking: Vita Will Only Allow 1 PSN Account

Although the Vita will not be region locked in the same way that the 3DS does, it seems as if it will not be quite as open as its PSP and PS3 predecessors were, as the new portable will apparently only allow one PSN account per device.

According to the FAQ at a recent live demo event in Osaka, the Vita will be limited to one PSN account unless you reformat:

Q: How many PSN account can be set up on a Vita system?

A: Only 1 account. If you want to use a different account, you need to format the system to factory settings.

While you’ll still be able to play any imported games, it means you’ll have to stick to one region for the PlayStation Store–meaning no more downloading demos of Japanese-exclusives, for instance.

Sony did promise that their digital titles will be cheaper than retail–although whether that will hold true in the US and Europe (where game prices are generally less and more consistent than they are in Japan), is yet to be seen.

Check out our recent hands-on with the Vita, to see what we think of the portable so far.
