Skyrim Launch Units Expected to Generate $450 Million in Global Sales

ZeniMax Media Inc. today announced that Bethesda Softworks’ The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, is expected to generate more than $450 million in global retail sales from the seven million launch units sold for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

More than half of launch units were sold in the first 48 hrs. Steam reported that in the first 24 hrs of Skryim’s release, it set a record with over 280,000 concurrent players.

“We are grateful for the fans’ response to Skyrim,” said Robert Altman, Chairman and CEO of ZeniMax Media.  “Todd Howard and his team at Bethesda Game Studios have crafted a very special game. Anticipation for Skyrim has surpassed any game in our company’s history, and we are pleased that sales and reviews have reflected the quality and hours of amazing gameplay it provides.”

Skyrim has already received high praise from critics with many perfect scores given. With a strong history of producing Game of the Year titles, it looks like Bethesda could have another one on it’s hands.
