Black Ops Sells 15 Million Copies

Black Ops Sells 15 Million Copies

Roughly one year ago, Call of Duty: Black Ops was released by Activision and Treyarch.  As it turns out, and to the surprise of no one, it sold extremely well.  The NPD, as part of Ubisoft’s earning report, indicated that Black Ops had sold nearly 15 million copies through September.  That puts it firmly into the number one spot, with Ubisoft’s Just Dance 2 in second with about 5.25 million copies sold.

These numbers measure the number of new copies sold between January 2010 and September 2011 and fail to factor in the number of used copies sold of any of these games.  Because of this, it is impossible to know the exact number of people who have owned Black Ops at some point in the game’s lifespan.

For the gamer who regularly lives under a rock, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was released on Tuesday and every indication is that it will surpass Black Ops in the coming months.

Rounding out the top 11 was Madden 12 (5,195,251), Halo: Reach (4,746,560), New Super Mario Wii (4,231,423), NBA 2K11 (4,202,926), Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver (3,943,889), Red Dead Redemption (3,877,037), Wii Fit Plus (3,577,800), Pokemon Black/White (3,581,789) and Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood (3,141,187).
