3 Silent Hill Games Creep onto Shelves in Early 2012

3 Silent Hill Games Creep onto Shelves in Early 2012

While few New Years’ resolutions involve driving a rusty crowbar into grotesque, faceless horrors, Konami is looking out for those of us who are more inclined to include monster clobbering on our list. Konami announced that three titles for the Silent Hill series are due out in the first quarter of 2012.

This past Halloween may have been a disappointment for Silent Hill fans hoping to be treated to Silent Hill: Downpour for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The new installment in the Silent Hill series went through a number of delays. It was initially set for a spooktacular Oct. 31 release date, but was later pushed back to Nov. 4. Now Konami has settled on a release date of March 4, making it the third Silent Hill title to hit in early 2012. Downpour tells the story of Murphy Pendleton, a prisoner who becomes trapped in the town of Silent Hill after a bus accident interrupts his trip to Wayside Maximum Security Penitentiary. It is the first Silent Hill game to support 3D visuals.

Joining Downpour in ringing in the New Year is Silent Hill HD Collection on Jan. 24, followed by Silent Hill: Book of Memories on Feb. 22. Silent Hill HD Collection brings Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3 to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. As the title implies, the graphics have been translated into high definition—meaning a lot of your favorite spooks might be getting a makeover. (Personally, I think our nurse friend is plenty beautiful as she is, but a little nip and tuck couldn’t hurt).   Book of Memories  is a multiplayer spin-off set to be a launch title for the PlayStation Vita. Whether or not Book of Memories will include a story mode is still unknown. The main focus of Book of Memories is to utilize the PlayStation Vita’s Cooperative play capabilities.
