Professional Thieves Steal 6,000 Copies of Modern Warfare 3

As if media attention and industry fervor over the year’s biggest shooter wasn’t already immense, the impending release of Modern Warfare 3 has prompted a high-stakes theft in France.

Citing French news agency France-Info, Kotaku reported yesterday that a delivery truck driving through Créteil in southern Paris was robbed on Saturday. After being rammed off the road by another vehicle, the driver was confronted by two men armed with knives. The assailants used tear gas to subdue the driver and passenger before making off with the contents of the truck, which included 6,000 copies of Modern Warfare 3. The total sum of stolen goods is valued at around 400,000 euros.

Neither Activision nor Infinity Ward has yet to comment on the incident. While several early copies of Modern Warfare 3 have leaked to gamers in the last few days, the game officially goes on sale at 12:01 AM tomorrow. Sound off in the comments with your thoughts on this high-profile theft, and if you’re excited for the latest Call of Duty.
