Nippon Ichi Beats Expectations on Strong Disgaea Sales

Nippon Ichi passed its expectations for the first half of the fiscal year. The report had shown that from 4/1 to 9/30, Nippon Ichi had net earnings of 122 million yen (equivalent to 1.56 million USD) and sales were at 1,183 million yen (equals to just over 15 million USD). This is a pleasant change than the forecast of of a net loss of 10 million yen (equals to just under 128 thousand USD.).

In the earnings report, it had been mentioned that the North American sales of Disgaea 4 were strong and that domestic DLC sales were strong after the PlayStation Network had recovered. Video game publishing wasn’t the only area that Nippon Ichi had reported to be doing well in. Included in the list are the royalties of licensing its characters to other companies (an example being the “Nippon Ichi-san” character in Idea Factory’s title Neptune mk2) and ‘other businesses’ that encompass the management of amusement facilities.

Despite the positive results, Nippon Ichi isn’t changing its annual forecast figures. Instead, they remain at 2,228 million yen sales and net earnings of 59 million yen. The reason behind this is “there are still some elements about upcoming products that aren’t finalized.” For those who would like to view Nippon Ichi’s full earning statement, click this link. It’s a Japanese PDF so some knowledge of the language might be helpful.
