Trials HD Developer Acquired by Ubisoft

Trials HD Developer Acquired by Ubisoft

Yesterday, RedLynx announced via a press release posted in their forums that it had been picked up by French publishing giant Ubisoft.  RedLynx is probably best known for their hit XBLA title Trials HD, but the Finnish developer has also ventured out onto the iOS app store with titles like Monster Trucks Nitro, Drawrace, and the platformer Thousand Heroes.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot had this to say about the acquisition:

“The team at RedLynx has developed exceptionally strong digital brands that stand out for their high replay value, their long tail sales and their multiplatform positioning. We are delighted to welcome RedLynx to the Ubisoft family. Their expertise in asynchronous online games and physics-based game mechanics provides us with a great opportunity to bring their powerful brands, most notably Trials, to an even broader range of fast-growing digital platforms.”

RedLynx CEO Tero Virtala stated:

“As part of the Ubisoft team the company will focus even more intently on creating stand-out, excellent brands that push the boundaries of online gaming in many new growth areas.”

RedLynx’s signature title, Trials HD, has sold over two million downloads, including DLC add-ons, and have already revealed a sequel for the XBLA in Trials HD: Evolution.  There’s been no confirmed release date, but RedLynx has released the trailer below.  The game looks to have a track editor and includes the addition of multiplayer play.
