MW3 – Hardened Edition Sold Out At Major Retailers

MW3 – Hardened Edition Sold Out At Major Retailers

Modern Warfare 3 is going to sell millions of copies after it releases on November 8th, with the majority of sells expected to come from Xbox 360 owners.  A couple of major retailers however, appear to be sold out of the “Hardened” Edition for the PlayStation 3.  Retailers Amazon.com and GameStop, while having the item listed, are no longer offering the edition. Other retailers however still have Modern Warfare 3‘s Hardened Edition available for pre-order on the PlayStation 3, including Best Buy and ToysRUs.

While there is no reason given on either website, the first presumption would be that the companies have sold all of their pre-order allotments.  Notably, Hardened editions for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are totally absent from Buy.com.  Newegg however is the only retailer I discovered sold out of the Xbox 360 Hardened Edition while still offering PlayStation 3 pre-orders for the same edition.

Often, pre-orders are just for grabbing offers from retailers for exclusive DLC, it appears as though those wanting the Hardened edition for the PlayStation 3 need to act fast.  If you happen to find a retailer sold-out of pre-orders or still offering them, let us know in the comments.

The shortage of Hardened Editions might have something to do with the fact that it will include a free subscription to Call of Duty Elite.  Elite will offer advanced stat-tracking and access to premium DLC for free.  A one-year subscription to the service cost $49.99.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 will release November 8, 2011 on the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
