Uncharted 3 “Fortune Hunters’ Club” Detailed
Initiatives like EA Sports’ Season Pass and L.A. Noire’s Rockstar Season Ticket are part of the gaming industry’s latest trends. For a one-time discounted fee, you get access to upcoming DLC for free when it releases. In an age of $15 map packs and 99-cent character skins, season passes can be a good or bad thing, depending on the pricing and how much content the pass delivers in the long-run. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is the biggest PlayStation 3-exclusive of the year, and the latest game to receive this offer.
Announced on the official PlayStation Blog this morning, the Uncharted 3 “Fortune Hunters’ Club” will give members access to seven upcoming multiplayer packs, including four map packs and three character skin packs. Membership costs $24.99, a 45% discount off the total cost of $45 for buying the packs individually. Naughty Dog has yet to detail the DLC, but did announce that the first will release sometime in November. Buying into the “Fortune Hunters’ Club” won’t get you early access (and no word yet on pricing for Plus members), but the discount itself is an alluring prospect for dedicated Uncharted fans.
How do you feel about Uncharted 3 getting a DLC season pass? Are you in favor of developers and publishers offsetting the inevitable cost of DLC with Day One deals? Sound off in the comments below and stay tuned to Vivid Gamer for all things Uncharted 3.

I think these are a great idea, but I don’t want to see them either. When I buy a game, I don’t have a clue how long I will have it. More importantly… these passes don’t last long and you don’t usually know the contents. Many costumes (like in Uncharted 2) I never saw a use in using and every time you get something you don’t want… you’re losing value.
I rather pay the full sum of cash than taking a risk that I want everything.
These membership schemes will be the future of games in general – it makes sense from a business perspective, now someone like DICE can charge $100 for Battle Field 3, and then release 4 DLC for $10, or offer users all 4 DLC for $20.
It just a tactic to get more money out of the consumer.
