Arkham City, Uncharted 3 Review Scores Arrive

Arkham City, Uncharted 3 Review Scores Arrive

Batman: Arkham Asylum was a Game of the Year contender for many players when it was released in 2009, and Rocksteady Games has been working hard to top their freshman effort. An online review embargo was in effect for Arkham City up until this morning, when it was lifted. Now, review scores have been pouring in and they paint a very clear picture: Batman’s second adventure rocks. Check out this small collection of scores with select quotations:

  • 1up: A – “Arkham City serves as one of those sequels that renders it predecessor wholly obsolete.”
  • GamesRadar: 10/10 – “Batman: Arkham Asylum was the greatest superhero game of all time. The sequel, Batman: Arkham City, is five times bigger and about a bilion times better. You do the math.”
  • GameTrailers: 9.3/10 – “[Arkham City] is the definitive Batman game, but to leave it there would be to damn it with faint praise . . . You owe it to yourself to experience Arkham City.”
  • IGN: 9.5/10 – “Batman: Arkham City isn’t just better than Batman: Arkham Asylum, it’s better than most games on the market.”
  • GameSpot: 9.0/10 – “Batman: Arkham City’s irresistible world, joyous movement, rewarding combat, and varied side quests make it an exceptional adventure game.”
  • GamePro: 5/5 – “It’s a must-own, and a definite contender for the year’s best.”
  • Game Informer: 10/10 – “Arkham City . . . bests its predecessor in every way and stands tall as one of Batman’s greatest moments . . . The Best Licensed Video Game Ever Made.”

So far, Arkham City has garnered Metacritic scores of 95 and 98 on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, respectively.

While Arkham City launches on October 18, Naughty Dog’s highly-anticipated adventure game Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception is right around the corner on November 1. The print embargo for Uncharted 3 was lifted today, and the game’s first review score has arrived via Spanish magazine Playmania. The magazine awarded Uncharted 3 a 9.9 out of 10. Uncharted 3′s 9.9 is the highest score ever awarded by the magazine, besting previous record-holder Red Dead Redemption’s 9.8. For comparison, Uncharted 2 was awarded a 9.5 by the same magazine. Specific details have not yet leaked, but Naughty Dog has confirmed (and expressed disappointment) that the review spoils the game’s ending (search at your own risk).
