Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Confirmed

Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer Confirmed

Although it had been rumored that Mass Effect 3 would have a multiplayer component, it hadn’t yet been confirmed. Today, however, IGN is reporting that an Australian gaming magazine has confirmed Shepard’s final adventure will involve multiplayer.

In an online preview of the November issue of PC PowerPlay, they confirm the multiplayer addition (a first for the series):

“That’s right – Mass Effect 3 is getting multiplayer! We travel to BioWare’s office in Edmonton for hands-on time with the series’ first foray into online gameplay, and chat with Mass Effect Series Producer and Mass Effect 3 Project Director Casey Hudson about the decision to go multiplayer in the epic battle for the galaxy.”

The cover of the magazine suggests co-op play, “Fight alongside your friends as the galaxy goes to war!” However, no details on the multiplayer are yet available.

I suppose it was inevitable; everything seems to be getting multiplayer nowadays; and I could see how a co-op mode could potentially work in the Mass Effect universe. Personally, I don’t think it’s necessary at all–but I’ll reserve judgment till we have more information on how multiplayer will work in the game.  How do you feel? Are you excited by this news?
